Design principles:
Rule of thirds - The people in the image are place accordingly to the rule of thirds, which makes the frame more visually appealing and puts more emphasis on them.
Contrast - Contrast of colours can be seen between the foreground and the background. The foreground has more vibrant colours; whereas, the background is relatively dull.
Effect on the narratives:
In this scene, an extraordinary man with magical powers can be seen holding his staff. Using his magical powers, he was able to turn the season from a blizzarding winter to the very nice season as seen in Fig. 1.6. He did this because a victim of the blizzard was dying due to the extreme temperature.
In addition, the way this frame is being designed shows a wide picture of the environment. This helps to create a sense of atmosphere towards the viewer.

Design principles:
Emphasis: Clear emphasis on 'Jinx', one of the main characters in this TV series.
Hierarchy: Although the stopwatch is being swung at the foreground and takes up much space, it is a secondary element in the frame as it has been slightly blurred. The main focus is Jinx because of how she is positioned in the frame. Then the dull background is even more insignificant.
Effect on the narratives:
This scene is shot in a unique and interesting angle, where Ekko and Jinx are about to battle. The stopwatch was being swung by Ekko, one of Jinx's childhood friends. He has the ability to use the stopwatch to calculate her moves and how to win the battle. The implicit meaning, in my opinion, is that Ekko is hesitating to fight his childhood friend.

Design principles:
Movement: Movement can be shown when Vi, a main character, punches an enemy towards the sky. The dynamic pose of Vi and the enemy shows clear movement and the viewer is able to understand easily.
Emphasis + Contrast: The main emphasis of this frame is Vi. This is achieved by using accent colours of blue and purple, which contrasts with the rest of the frame. The rest of the frame is mostly dul grey and green.
Rule of thirds: Vi, the main focus is positioned according to the rule of thirds. making the scene even more visually appealing.
Effect on the narratives:
Vi punches a Chemtank enemy up to the skies, as another one of them approaches from behind her. The placements of those three elements in the frame can show the continuity of the scene.

At the beginning, I started off by thinking and jotting down scenes that are dramatic and that I can remember forever. I had tons of amazing ideas but these are the 5 best scenes in my opinion, as shown in Fig. 2.1.

Above are all the scenes from their respective movies/TV series. I remover Skyscraper and added Arcane instead as the fifth idea.

I tried to narrow it down to just two movies: Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Captain America: Civil War. Personally, the Star Wars series is beyond great and it gives me a sense of nostalgia every time I watch Star Wars movies. I am sure majority of people have seen this scene in Fig. 2.1.12 from Star Wars, even if they never really watched the full movie. It's simply too iconic.

As for Captain America: Civil War, the scene where Cap and Bucky fought side-by-side to defeat Iron Man has always got a place in my heart. Personally, I am someone who grew up with Marvel movies. As a child, I could never think of superheroes fighting each other. It was probably because I was too innocent back then and knew nothing about betrayal and stuff. Well, what can I say, i guess this is part of growing up.
Week 7 (13/04/2022) - Sketches
I experimented with both the movies and came up with two sketches of different compositions each.

At last, I ultimately chose Star Wars over Captain America. One main reason for this is because I think the 'high ground' scene looks more spectacular and iconic. It is also one of the classic movies, at least for me. Here's a little synopsis of the movie:
"Anakin joins forces with Obi-Wan and sets Palpatine free from the evil clutches of Count Doku. However, he falls prey to Palpatine and the Jedis' mind games and gives into temptation."

Firstly, I placed the reference image in the background and lowered the opacity to better see the shapes I will be creating. Then, I started tracing the objects to create blocks of shapes.

After that, I picked colours from the reference image and filled them into my shapes accordingly.

Once I have all the base shapes blocked out, I started adding in some details. I tried to identify and simplify the shapes the best that I can do while maintaining the sense of depth throughout the scene. Then, I added in shadows, highlights, and some details.

Next, I added details for the smaller objects like the two characters, as well as the small platform Anakin is standing on. Once I am satisfied with the amount of details, I moved on to the background. I started it off with a single fill of colour.

I referred back to the original poster to look at the names of the movie crew, and also how the texts are arranged.

I searched up an image of the title and inserted it into the artboard. I also added a catchy tagline from the movie: It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground. As for font type, I am using Futura Light for the tagline.

I typed out the names of the movie crew. The font I am using for this is Futura Condensed. I formatted the text and reduced the leading between lines of text.

For the tagline, instead of having it in one line, I changed it to two lines as suggested by Ms Anis.

Week 9 - Deciding between pre-comps
General feedback: The second pre-composition looks better. However, try and make the tagline 2 lines:
IT'S OVER, ANAKIN.
I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND.
instead of
IT'S OVER, ANAKIN. I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND.
Other than that, everything else is okay.
Specific feedback: Mr Hafiz and I talked a bit about Star Wars movies lol. Besides that, I was a little worried whether the lava pit area is too complicated for a minimalistic styled poster. However, Mr Hafiz said that it works just fine because the 'heavy' weight at the bottom of the poster is well balanced out by the white spaces at the upper end of the poster. He also suggested that if I were to further simplify the lava pit area, it might look too simple. In that case, I can apply some texture or grain effect to it.
REFLECTION
At the stage of brainstorming ideas and choosing the right movie to continue with was definitely a hard choice as I love all the movies listed. Upon completing the sketches, frankly speaking, digitalizing the poster using the pen tool is quite manageable. However, it took quite some time for me to complete it as I want it to look as seamless as possible. The most challenging part for me is undoubtedly the GIF animation since animation is not quite my thing. However, after trying it out, who knows? It might be helpful in the future.
In my opinion, the most important thing I learnt in this task is to simplify complicated objects into simple geometric shapes. In addition, though this is not my first time creating a GIF animation, I still find it quite challenging to produce a smooth animation. All I can say is that it takes a lot of practice.
