INSTRUCTIONS
Project Progress (Week 1)
1. Chosen SDG topic: Goal 14 - Life Below Water.
2. Understanding my topic:
- Basically, this SDG emphasises on conserving the use of resources below water for sustainable development.
- Under the ‘Life Below Water’ SDG, there are a total of 10 targets to hit in order to achieve the goal.
- Targets include to reduce marine pollution, protect and restore ecosystems, reduce ocean acidification…
3. Project Ideas:
- Concept design
Based solely on the general theme of ‘Life Below Water’ without any regard of the SDG definition itself, I aim to create a series of fictional marine life/creatures that are inspired from actual marine faunas (for a movie, game universe, etc).
The final outcome shall be presented individually in a presentable way (poster, creature intro page, etc.)
Visual research:
- Illustrations + Short awareness video
To create a comparative 2-panel digital artwork: a clean coral reef vs a polluted one. Add ‘playfulness’ by make them into a short clip to show both phenomena.
The goal is to send a message / spread awareness of coral reef conservation in Malaysia.

FEEDBACK
Ms Anis (07/04/2023)Your initial idea is too narrow. Try looking from the perspective of 'awareness'. Look at coral reef conservation in Malaysia.
REFLECTION
This week, I tried coming up with ideas with the topic and 'playfulness' in mind. It was difficult at first, as I could only think about making awareness posters / videos after reading about the SDGs.
Then, i thought why not I come up with my own definition of 'Life Below Water' and not strictly follow the definition from the UNDP? Hence, I started to explore something that I have always wanted to try but never had the chance: to create marine faunas / creatures that are inspired from actual marine animals. I was inspired by movies such as Avatar, Aquaman, and other artists' designs I've seen from Pinterest, Twitter, etc.
