INSTRUCTIONS
Week 1 - 4: Proposal and Idea Development
For weeks 1-4, we are required to choose and SDG as the base of our project.
Our project will be based on the element of 'playfulness'.
I started by doing some research on SDGs and settled on SDG 14 - Life Below
Water.
The progress from this couple of weeks will be shown in the following slides:
Week 5 - 14: Character texture and 3D sculpting
After doing further research and looking for inspirations, I have decided to
work on a new project concept. I originally opted to design a parallax
website, but I've scrapped that idea and decided to work on a 3D character
model instead.
The main reason for this change was because I was doing some research on
parallax websites (sites that has unique and cool scrolling effects that
causes the foreground and background to move differently), I realised that the
coding process is quite complicated. It requires a good understanding in
working with HTML, CSS, and even Javascript. which I have little to no
experience working with.
I have more interest in the character design and 3D modelling themes, as
opposed to website development. I think I will be able to put in more
creativity into something I am more familiar with.
Task:
- To create a 3D character sculpture that spreads awareness about coral reef
conservation in Zbrush & Blender.
- The character represents nature / the coral reef. Thus, there will be
elements of different types of corals that can be found in Malaysia. Part of
its body is slowly getting destroyed by the pollution / threats.
- The design inflicts pity, sadness, negative emotions in general to the
viewers in order to have a greater impact towards them.
Process for these few weeks are compiled below:
Week 15 - 16: 3D texturing and final video
I finalised the character sculpture in Zbrush by adding details. Once that is done, I imported the model into Blender to start texturing.

*Textures are not showing on the model as there was a problem with that one kind of nodes (highlighted red) when I reopened the .blend file to take screenshots...

After making sure everything is working. I rendered a few scenes in 30fps mp4 files. I then moved into Premiere Pro to combine the footage and add a background music, as well as some text at the end of the video.
